At makeART we are constantly working with the community to develop new classes and workshops. We cater for a variety of ages and also offer school holiday workshops.
Welcome to makeART
Picasso said it best when he said,
“every child is born an artist”
This statement has become the drive behind makeART Classes and Workshops to inspire and help children remain the artist as they develop and grow as well as inspire adults to rediscover the orphaned artist within them.
We believe it important to not only sketch masterpieces on paper, but to draw on integrity and self-acceptance, not only paint bold strokes on canvas but paint bold moves of kindness and respect throughout communities. We mould meaningful sculptures and help to shape meaningful lives. We believe it not only important to create beautiful art that imitates our world, but to create a beautiful world that will inspire art...
...so what are you going to create?
Who are we?
makeART Classes and Workshops was established in July 2014 making their home in the upstairs art space at the Mary Davies Library and Community Centre in Baldivis. Since then, makeART's passion to help 'Littlies' remain sensitive artists as they grow, provide a space for young artists to expand their creativity and encourage grown-ups to find the playful artist subdued within has expanded into a fun, creative family with classes and workshops to suit every age group. We invite you to scroll through our palette of opportunities, make your booking and lets create amazing art together.
Adults’ Art Term Classes
5 week term (10 hours)
$225 per term
7.00 - 9.00pm
You were born an artist!
No doubt you have wonderful memories of making art in the form of childish drawings and creations, when you were still curious about the world around you and oblivious to time and what other people thought. But that all changed, didn’t it? Perhaps a parent said you couldn’t draw, a friend laughed or a teacher ridiculed. Maybe you just got too busy with life. You put down the pencil, threw away the paintbrush and stopped doodling. Let’s call the artist in you home again…
Reclaim fundamental drawing skills that start with the art of observation.
Relearn drawing shapes, volume, perspective and tone (sounds like a life lesson really!)
Reevaluate your inherent skills and start trusting and surprising yourself again.
Remove obstacles to your creativity with me guiding you from basics through to advanced drawing skills including mark making and different qualities of line, drawing with gesture, composition, positive and negative space, working with the grey scale and splashing out in full, Technicolor style from the pencil to the paintbrush.
Leave your ‘adult’ at the door and invoke your 10 year old self…with a little wine if you like, or a bag of lolly snakes. Indulge yourself and me with your creativity. Four weeks, eight hours without any other demands except to have fun, play, laugh, learn, draw, paint and create a few masterpieces that may just take your breath away.
Children'/Youth Term Classes
8 week term (8 hours)
Wednesdays or Thursdays
$180 per term
5 - 7 years 3.30 - 4.30pm
8 - 10 years 4.30 - 5.30pm
11+ years 5.30 - 6.30pm
I believe your child was born an artist and my aim is to replace the iPad with a canvas, a mouse with a paintbrush and the phone with a palette. For an hour each week your young artist will go on a journey of exploration and self discovery through the adventures of drawing, painting, collage and 3D art.
You get to simply drop off, pick up and start your own gallery.
Art is a deeply personal experience and through this journey, guided by a particular theme or artist, I will inspire and teach your child the practice of mindfully focusing on the process of their creation and what they see in the detail, not only on what they are creating but how they are creating it…the feel of different materials, a pencil mark, pastel or ink pen, the feathery touch of a paint brush, the magnificence of a splash of water.
All classes begin the week after school starts each term and end the week before school finishes.
